Bones

The three rules — say all three, every time

  1. Raw only. Never cooked. Cooked bone hardens and splinters
  2. Bigger than the dog's mouth, so it can't be swallowed whole
  3. Always supervised — especially until they know how their dog chews

Which bone

Bone Best for
Turkey necks Softer, consumable. Smaller dogs, first-timers
Beef ribs Good all-rounder
Marrow bones (sizes) Popular. Marrow is very rich — scoop some out for a heavy chewer
Knuckle Larger, longer-lasting
Pork femurs Hardest. Serious chewers only

How often

1 – 2 × a week. Marrow bones once a week max. Puppies: softer options only — chicken necks, smaller ribs.

Warn them about the stools

White and crumbly after a bone is normal. So is mild constipation. A customer who isn't warned will assume something's wrong.

Ground bone ≠ recreational bone

"The bone in the food is nutrition. The bone in the bag is entertainment."

Never say a bone is safe for all dogs.
