Quick Reference · Lesson 3
Switching to raw
Straight switch — most healthy adult dogs
- Fast 12 – 24 hours
- Start on raw
- Serve at room temperature the first few days
- Then feed from the fridge as normal
Gradual — sensitive dogs, or a nervous owner
| Days 1–2 | Days 3–4 | Days 5–6 | Day 7 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25% raw | 50% raw | 75% raw | 100% raw |
Senior dogs — go much slower, 2 – 4 weeks
- Prepare the gut first — probiotics, digestive enzymes, a fibre source like pumpkin
- One lean protein only — Pure Chicken or Pure Turkey. No multiple proteins, nothing rich or fatty early
- Transition over 2 – 4 weeks, stepping 25% → 50% → 75% → 100%
- Fasting is optional and NOT for underweight, frail or medically sensitive dogs
- Monitor stool, energy, appetite, weight. Pause or step back at any sign of discomfort
Cats — slowest of all
Never starve a cat into eating. Risk of hepatic lipidosis. Go slower, use toppers, or speak to a vet.
⚠ Always
- Start with a simple protein — Pure Chicken or Pure Turkey
- Never start a first-time raw dog on rabbit or duck
- Don't mix kibble and raw in the same bowl
