Did you know, one in three dogs require a supplement when on a raw diet.

Supplements are dietary add-ons to help support good health in our dogs. If your dog’s diet is balanced and they are eating a rotation of proteins, you may not need to add additional supplements. However, supplements can provide extra support for their overall health or can help with common health issues including:

  • Immune deficiency
  • Arthritis,
  • Heart health
  • Digestive problems
  • Joint care
  • Post-surgery or illness
  • & more!

What to steer clear of with supplements:

  1. Beware of synthetic supplements: Many dog food companies add synthetic supplements to their food, yet up to 90% of these synthetic supplements are destroyed during the processes used in conventional kibble and canned pet food manufacturing. This can lead to many health problems in the future for your pets.
  2. Over-supplementing:Over-supplementing is also a concern as it can destroy the nutritional balance of your dog’s diet and may do more harm than good. An example is fat-soluble vitamins. These can be over-supplemented as they are stored in the liver and fatty tissue, whereas water-soluble vitamins are more appropriate for dogs because they exit the body.

Two main supplements to add to a raw diet.

A raw diet requires two main supplements to be added to your dog's bowl; an Omega 3 &  Kelp Powder (Kelp Powder is required if feeding only Pure blends).

Raw Performance Herring Oil

Fats are the second most important part of your dog's diet next to protein. Just like humans, animals can’t synthesize omega-3 in their bodies. The two active forms of Omega-3 are Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) which are key components of cell membranes that play an important role in humans, dogs, and cats. These unique fatty acids act as signals in cells to decrease inflammation which leads to decrease in pain, redness and swelling in the skin, joints and other organs. Omega-3 fatty acids, are found in cold-water fish like Sardines, Herring, Salmon & Mackerel and provide many benefits including:

  • Better nutrient absorption
  • Promotes a softer, shinier coat
  • Reduces the risk of stroke and heart problems
  • Improved immune system
  • Relieves arthritis and joint issues
  • Increased energy levels
  • Improves cognitive dysfunction

Note: If you are feeding Raw Performance Pure Salmon or Turkey & Salmon raw food, a fish oil supplementation is not required.

Kelp Powder

Sea kelp is very nutritious for dogs and includes 60 different vitamins, minerals, and trace elements as well as 21 amino acids for your dog’s health. Kelp is also a complex carbohydrate and a natural source for numerous growth hormones.
