There are so many nutrient-filled and fun meal toppers you can add to your pet’s bowls. We are highlighting some of the most popular items and the benefits of each.
Remember, like all good things in life, they are to be fed in moderation!
Raw eggs can be an egg-cellent source of additional beneficial nutrients for your pet. Not only are they packed with vitamins and minerals, but they are also one of the most complete sources available of amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins.
The choices are ...
Duck, chicken and quail eggs each range in size, protein level and fat content. Eggs are generally a good addition to your dog’s bowl, but just like anything else dogs can have an allergic reaction or sensitivity to eggs. Introduce eggs/different eggs slowly and watch for any signs of allergy or sensitivity including itchy skin, inflamed areas after eating, vomiting or diarrhea.
What about salmonella?
A dog's digestive system has powerful stomach acids/digestive juices that helps kill bacteria and defends against salmonella. When purchasing eggs, look for organic, pasture-raised eggs and store them at a cool temperature.
Can dogs eat eggshells?
Dogs can eat the shell! Eggshells are a great source of calcium and phosphorus for your dog which contributes to healthy and strong bones and teeth! The membrane lining in eggshell also provides a great source of collagen, Hyaluronic acid, glucosamine & chondroitin, all of which are beneficial for joint pain.
All of our formulas require you to add a source of Omega 3 fatty acid daily. We typically suggest adding fish oil like our Herring Oil daily, however you can add other fish sources as well!
Some pet parents opt to add fish to their pets bowl such as Smelt, Salmon, Mackerel or Sardines for their pet’s Omega 3 source. Each of these fish offers essential omega-3 fatty acids in the form of EPA and DHA as well as a source of Vitamin D.
We offer frozen sardines online! Other options rather than fish oil or whole fish is mixing one of our salmon meal options such as our Pure Salmon or Turkey Salmon Formulas.
Fish oil benefits:
No matter the source, make sure your pet is getting their required omega 3’s fed daily. If your pet is allergic to fish, please reach out and we would be happy to talk about some alternatives!
Raw or unpasteurized Goat’s milk can be a great treat and/or nutritional aid for your dog. Goat’s milk is packed with probiotics that produce healthy gut bacteria in the digestive tract to help support digestion. Goat’s milk also provides key benefits like moisture, vitamins, amino acids and calcium to your dog’s bowl!
Much like bone broth, there are so many ways to serve goat’s milk to your dog. Add it as a meal topper, on its own, frozen into ice cube trays as treats, or even made into a puppicino if you're feeling fancy!
We offer frozen goats milk online!
Bone broth is another common meal topper and there are so many reasons why!
There’s lots of great recipes for bone broth online, or you can find it at most local pet food stores.
